A fire broke out around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday in a warehouse storing old tires at Sheikh Abu Nasr Farahi Port in Farah province, causing more than 9 million afghanis in damage, according to Mullah Bahruddin Saifullah, the port commissioner.

The blaze, which started due to the carelessness of an individual, destroyed 11,000 old tires, 20 rooms, one container, four cabins and one Zaranj motorcycle, Saifullah said.

Joint Afghan and Iranian firefighting teams brought the fire under control after approximately 10 hours. The response involved four Afghan fire trucks, three Iranian fire trucks, one water cannon, 75 water tankers, 35 personnel and the use of soil barriers to contain the flames.

Saifullah stated that port security remains intact and commercial activities can continue without interruption. No injuries or further incidents were reported.

The port, a key border crossing point, handles significant trade between Afghanistan and Iran. The incident underscores the challenges of fire safety in storage facilities handling large volumes of combustible materials like tires.
