In Baghlan province, five different types of honey are being produced by local beekeepers.
These types are described as high-quality and pure. They are generated from operations in three specific districts within the province.
According to Mohammad Aman, who heads the Beekeepers Union in the Andarabs area of Baghlan, there are currently 60 active beekeeping farms in the districts of Banu, Deh Salah, and Pul-e-Hesar.
These farms maintain nearly one thousand beehives in total.
The honey produced is sold at prices ranging from 500 to 1,000 Afghanis for each kilogram. The exact price depends on the particular type of honey.
Aman himself is a beekeeper with approximately 200 hives under his management. He shared that he began this work with just three hives some time ago.
Since then, beekeeping has developed into a reliable source of income for him.
He spoke of honey in glowing terms, referring to it as a miracle of nature. Beyond providing nutrition, the product is also utilized for its medicinal properties.
Looking to the future, Aman expressed optimism about the potential for growth in this sector. He believes that if suitable facilities are provided, the honey from Andarabs could find its way into bigger markets both inside and outside the country.
He called upon the responsible institutions to extend their support to the beekeepers so that beekeeping becomes an important source of income and employment in Baghlan.
