Dawood Naji, the political head of the Freedom Front, has stated that his group views the Taliban morality police as a legitimate military target. He said the Freedom Front has carried out attacks against the department in several Afghan provinces in recent months.
According to Naji, the operations took place in Kabul, Kunduz, Pul-e-Khumri, and Takhar. He accused the Taliban Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice of kidnapping citizens and committing other abuses against the population.
Naji claimed that the morality police detain women and girls without their families knowing their fate, sometimes for up to 48 hours. He added that the department demands cash payments for the release of those detained.
The political head said the Freedom Front will continue its operations against the morality police. He emphasized that the group adheres to the laws of war and respects human rights principles in its activities.
Naji framed the morality police as a valid target due to the alleged harms it inflicts on Afghan citizens. The Freedom Front has positioned these actions as part of its broader efforts to address what it describes as abuses by the department.
The statements highlight the ongoing conflict involving opposition groups and Taliban authorities in Afghanistan. Naji presented the targeting as justified under military terms while maintaining compliance with international norms.
