KABUL (Afghan Verified) - Ali Bayat, a bodybuilder from Ghazni province and member of Afghanistan's national bodybuilding team, has qualified for the 2026 South Asian Games in Bhutan.
Bayat earned his spot in the 95kg category during national team selection trials, where officials assessed 35 athletes and selected 14, including him.
The athlete has qualified for international competitions on four previous occasions but was unable to participate each time due to financial constraints. Bayat urged the government, business community and sports organizations to provide funding to support his travel and competition.
"I aim to bring honor to the country," Bayat said.
Haji Bilal Mujahid, director of Olympic and sports affairs in Ghazni, hailed Bayat's selection as a significant achievement for the province. Mujahid noted the ongoing financial difficulties that prevent many Afghan athletes from competing abroad.
Naveed Ramazani, another official, highlighted Ghazni's strong sports culture, which has produced numerous national team members.
