Extraction of green garnet, a precious stone, has started in Panjshir province. Local officials reported that ten zones have been confirmed in the Shofah area of Anaba district where the work is underway. This development occurs as mining of emeralds and beryls continues in the region.

Saifuddin Laton, spokesman for the governor of Panjshir, provided details on the operations. He noted that engineering teams have identified the ten zones for green garnet extraction. In addition, beryl extraction is active in five zones within Anaba district.

The green garnet holds considerable value in global markets, with prices ranging from 500 to 2,000 US dollars per carat. Officials are also conducting surveys to identify 15 other types of precious and semi-precious stones in Panjshir. These efforts aim to expand the range of minerals extracted from the province in the future.

Panjshir province possesses rich mineral resources, particularly emeralds, and has seen growth in extraction and management activities over recent years. The new focus on green garnet adds to the portfolio of gemstones being mined in the area.
