Heavy Rains, Floods and Landslides Prompt Temporary Closure of Major Afghan Roads
KABUL — Ministry of Public Works spokesperson Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas announced that heavy rains, floods and landslides have led to the temporary closure of several major routes across Afghanistan.
The affected highways include Kabul-Nangarhar, Parwan-Bamyan, Maidan Wardak-Bamyan, Ghor-Herat and Ghor-Kabul, Haqshenas said. Some roads connecting provincial centers to districts have also been closed due to the recent heavy rains and flooding.
Haqshenas urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel on these routes until further notice. The ministry is working to assess damages and reopen the roads as soon as possible.
He noted that continuous rains over several days have caused damage in nearly all provinces, exacerbating the impact of floods and landslides on infrastructure.
