Herat Governor Sheikh Maulana Islamjar has called for greater volumes of cargo to be moved along the Khaf-Herat railway. The appeal was made in a meeting held on Tuesday with Mostafa Rezaei, director of Iran’s Railway Development Consortium in Afghanistan.

During the discussions, Islamjar highlighted the railway's significance as a transit and trade corridor connecting Afghanistan and Iran. He pointed out that the Rabat Paryan station is scheduled to begin operations in the near term. The governor expressed hope that these steps would strengthen commercial ties.

Rezaei, for his part, committed to expanding the railway's capabilities. He said the consortium aims to raise capacity to one hundred fifty thousand tonnes per month over the next several months. This expansion is intended to support greater volumes of Afghan exports.

The Khaf-Herat railway serves as an important link for goods moving between the two neighboring countries. Officials involved in the meeting indicated that improvements to the infrastructure would yield benefits for trade activities. The focus remains on making the route more efficient for cargo shipments.

The initiative comes as both sides seek to enhance economic cooperation through better transport options. By increasing the capacity of the existing railway, the volume of trade is expected to grow. The Rabat Paryan station will add to the network's reach once it is active.
