An armed attack on Tuesday, 6 Asad, targeted a five-member Taliban group in the Mal Bazaar area of Sar-e Pul city. Local sources reported that an intelligence employee and a Taliban soldier were killed and three others wounded. Taliban statements, however, indicated only one person was killed. The Taliban governor's office and the Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of two suspects, attributing the motive to personal disputes. No group has claimed responsibility for the incident. In a separate attack the previous day, Zabiullah Amiri, the Taliban head of information and culture in Badakhshan, was killed in a motorcycle shooting.
