International Traditional Wrestling Festival Concludes in Afghanistan

An international traditional wrestling festival hosted in Afghanistan has concluded following a three-day competition. The event brought together 160 athletes representing seven nations, including Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and the host country.

Competitions were held across three distinct disciplines: Kurash, Rustam wrestling, and belt wrestling. All matches took place at the Sports Authority gymnasium, a venue with a seating capacity of 2,500 spectators.

Final standings across the categories highlighted strong regional participation. In the Kurash division, Uzbekistan claimed first place, followed by Tajikistan and Afghanistan. Afghan athletes secured the top position in Rustam wrestling, with Uzbekistan finishing second and Tajikistan third. Tajikistan won the belt wrestling category, while Uzbekistan and Afghanistan placed second and third, respectively.

Mawlawi Ahmadullah Wasiq, Director General of the National Administration of Physical Education and Sports, attended the closing ceremony. He praised the organization of the tournament and described the event as a significant achievement for the country’s sports sector. Officials noted that the festival successfully showcased traditional athletic disciplines and provided a platform for regional competitors to engage in international sporting exchange.
