IOM Transit Center in Torkham Damaged by Ongoing Border Attacks
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that continuous attacks near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border have caused serious damage to its transit center in Torkham. IOM stated on Thursday, 21 Hoot, that it published images on X of the destroyed building, emphasizing that staff and humanitarian facilities must always be protected.
The center serves as a vital hub for providing assistance and protection to vulnerable returnees. IOM indicated it is assessing the damages and plans to resume services for Afghan returnees as soon as conditions allow.
The clashes between Taliban fighters and Pakistani forces have continued for over two weeks, starting on 7 Hoot, with dozens of casualties reported on both sides. The United Nations reported that 56 civilians, mostly women and children, have been killed in Afghanistan, with 129 others wounded due to indirect fire and airstrikes.
Hasht-e Subh noted civilian deaths in provinces including Nangarhar and Paktia from the recent military attacks. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that 16,370 families have been displaced due to the airstrikes and border clashes between Taliban and Pakistan.
