The Afghan Ministry of Mines and Petroleum announced that a number of Iranian investors and companies have expressed interest in investing in the country's mining and petroleum sectors.
Deputy Minister for Policy and Programs Abdul Rahman Qanit met with Iran's Ambassador Ali Reza Bikdeli and heads of the Iran-Afghanistan joint chambers of commerce to discuss expanded economic cooperation and investment in the mining sector.
Officials said agreements on cooperation were reached during a previous visit by the Afghan ministry leadership to Iran. The ministry stated that Afghanistan is rich in mineral resources and welcomes all international investors in the sector.
Iranian companies indicated they are ready to invest in mining and petroleum projects and to cooperate in training, experience transfer, and technical capacity development for mine exploration and extraction.
The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said it will continue cooperation with domestic and foreign investors within the framework of existing laws and procedures.
