Kandahar Edible Oil Production Reaches 50,000 Tons Annually

Local officials in Kandahar province report that the region’s edible oil sector has reached an annual output of 50,000 tons. The production is derived from cottonseed processed across 24 active factories operating in the province.

According to provincial authorities, the expansion of domestic oil processing has positioned Kandahar to achieve self-sufficiency in edible oil in the near future. The growth of the sector has also generated employment for dozens of local workers, contributing to regional economic activity and agricultural value chains.

Factory managers have formally requested that government authorities implement restrictions on the import of low-quality edible oils. Industry representatives stated that limiting foreign imports would help protect domestic producers, encourage further investment in local manufacturing facilities, and sustain job creation within the province.

The cottonseed oil industry in Kandahar has developed as part of broader agricultural processing efforts in southern Afghanistan. Officials noted that the current production capacity reflects ongoing investments in local infrastructure and technical capacity. Factory operators emphasized that consistent regulatory support and quality controls on imported goods would be critical to maintaining the sector’s growth trajectory.

Provincial economic reports indicate that the active facilities are operating at steady capacity, with processed oils distributed to domestic markets. Industry stakeholders continue to monitor supply chain conditions and raw material availability as they work toward meeting regional demand for cooking oils.
