Malaysia's Prime Minister Welcomes Temporary Afghanistan-Pakistan Ceasefire for Eid al-Fitr

Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim welcomed the temporary ceasefire between Afghanistan and Pakistan announced for Eid al-Fitr and called for continued efforts to reduce tensions and achieve lasting peace.

In a phone call with Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Anwar emphasized the importance of dialogue and reducing tensions. He also expressed concern over rising tensions in the Middle East, particularly regarding Iran, and urged all parties to prioritize peaceful solutions.

Pakistan announced that it has temporarily suspended its attacks in Afghanistan for Eid at the request of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey. The Islamic Emirate announced a suspension of operations during Eid as a gesture of goodwill and based on similar requests from regional partners.

Separately, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed regional developments with Shehbaz Sharif in a phone call. Erdogan emphasized Ankara's commitment to peace and stability in the region and stressed ongoing cooperation for long-term security.

The temporary ceasefire follows weeks of intense tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, including clashes along the Durand Line and airstrikes.
