Over 169,000 Tonnes of Goods Transported via Afghanistan’s Railways Last Week

More than 169,000 metric tonnes of goods were transported via Afghanistan’s railways during the week of March 12 to 18. This information was shared by the Ministry of Public Works through its official account on the social media platform X.

The ministry provided a detailed breakdown of the import volumes through different ports and routes. The largest amount of 108,086 tonnes was recorded at Hairatan Port. This was followed by 22,047 tonnes that were transported using the Khaf-Herat route. Turghundi Port saw 20,901 tonnes of goods, while Aqina Port handled 18,531 tonnes.

All these imports consisted of petroleum products, non-petroleum items, and other types of goods needed for various purposes in the country.

In terms of exports, the figures show that 1,262 tonnes of commercial goods were sent out from Afghanistan in the same period. The exports were primarily made up of dried fruits along with pomegranate juice.

The Ministry of Public Works stated that the increase in exports and imports via rail is helping create job opportunities for the people. It also helps in boosting the national revenue of the country. Furthermore, it contributes to advancing economic stability and self-sufficiency.

The ministry has also pointed out that it is continuing its work in this area. It is focusing on providing additional facilities that can be used by traders. At the same time, steps are being taken to make the railway transport system faster and more efficient for all involved parties.
