Pakistan Records More Than 180 Drone Attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Since 2025
More than 100 of the attacks occurred in the first five months of 2026, concentrated in North Waziristan and Bannu, with hundreds more intercepted by security forces. The increase has been linked to TTP operations and cross-border tensions with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Militants carried out at least 182 drone attacks on Pakistani security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the past 18 months. Of these, 82 attacks took place in 2025, including 41 in North Waziristan district and 26 in Bannu district.
More than 100 drone attacks occurred in the first five months of 2026 across 13 districts. North Waziristan recorded 48 of these incidents, while Bajaur and Tank each saw nine attacks. Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan each reported eight attacks, and Lakki Marwat recorded five.
Provincial authorities stated that hundreds of additional drone attacks were intercepted before reaching their targets. More than 200 such attempts were thwarted in Bannu district in the past six months alone.
Analysts have linked the rise in attacks to tactics employed by the TTP and the availability of Chinese drones. The TTP announced the formation of an air force unit in December 2025.
Pakistan has seen increased militant violence since the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan returned to power in August 2021. Pakistani officials accuse the TTP of using territory in the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan as a base, amid ongoing tensions over alleged militant sanctuaries.
