Pakistani Shelling Displaces 8,000 Families, Destroys 600 Homes in Afghanistan's Kunar Province
Shelling by the Pakistani military regime in Kunar province has destroyed nearly 600 homes and displaced about 8,000 families, forcing many to live along riversides and mountainsides.
Thabitullah Siddiqi, head of preparedness and natural disaster management in Kunar, said nearly 600 houses have been destroyed and around 8,000 families displaced. He noted that local officials are coordinating with aid agencies to assist the affected families.
According to the Kunar Information and Culture Department, the Pakistani military fired 17 shells at various areas of Naray district and seven more at the Manawara area in the past 24 hours. No casualties were reported, but significant financial damage was inflicted on civilian homes and property.
Residents described intense fear and disruption from the attacks. Aqraruddin Malangzai, a Kunar resident, said Pakistani forces shot at people transferring bodies or the wounded for burial, including an incident when mourners reached a cemetery in Brekot after bringing bodies from Naray.
Zakirullah, another resident, recounted previous shooting incidents that destroyed his uncles' houses, with shells landing one after another.
Arfanullah, a resident of Naray district, described a shell striking his home while he was with family. He said his uncle had called him to the lower floor three minutes before the impact, which demolished one room entirely and damaged windows and other parts of the house.
