A province-wide poppy eradication campaign has begun in Ghor province in accordance with Decree No. 31 from the supreme leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan banning narcotic crops.

Over 115 acres of poppy have been destroyed so far in Pasaband district. Operations are continuing in the Oktoba, Bayanakha, Doctork, Tajwin, Chakarbar and Izdawun areas of the district.

The drive will proceed until the entire province is cleared of poppy cultivation. Police are leading the eradication effort across Ghor.

Authorities have raised concerns that the wild yama plant is being used for methamphetamine production in some areas of the province.
