Prices of Gold, Petrol, Sugar Rise in Kabul

KABUL (Afghan Verified) -- Prices of petrol, liquefied gas, Kazakh flour, Indian sugar and gold increased in Kabul over the past week, while diesel and several food items remained stable.

At fuel stations, petrol rose to 67 afghanis per litre from 64 afghanis, according to Ahmadyar, a worker at a station in Kabul. Liquefied gas climbed to 56 afghanis per litre from 52 afghanis, said seller Mohammad Jan Amin. Diesel held steady at 65 afghanis per litre.

Wholesale prices for a 49-kg sack of Kazakh flour increased to 1,520 afghanis from 1,460 afghanis, according to shopkeeper Zmarai Safi, with retail prices at 1,750 afghanis, per Hamid Sufizada. A 49-kg sack of Indian sugar rose to 3,450 afghanis wholesale from 3,070 afghanis, with retail at 3,500 afghanis.

Gold prices also advanced, with Arabian gold reaching 7,900 afghanis per gramme from 7,450 afghanis and Russian gold to 6,290 afghanis per gramme from 5,950 afghanis, jeweller Mohammad Fawad said.

Other food items showed no change, including 24-kg bags of Indian rice at 3,000-3,050 afghanis, 16-litre tins of cooking oil at 1,850-1,900 afghanis, black tea at 380-400 afghanis per kg and green tea at 350-430 afghanis per kg.

In currency markets, the US dollar traded at 64.80 afghanis, up from 64.10 afghanis, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees fetched 218 afghanis, up from 215 afghanis, money exchanger Haji Mohammad Hussain reported.
