Probe launched into exhumation of former soldier’s grave in Uruzgan
KANDAHAR CITY — An investigation has been launched into the exhumation of the grave of a former government military member, Sediqullah, and the alleged mistreatment of his remains in central Uruzgan province.
Police spokesman Bilal Uruzgani said the incident occurred in the Shahidan Cemetery in Tirinkot city, the provincial capital, on Saturday night. He stated that the remains were subjected to inhumane and un-Islamic treatment.
Police rushed to the scene and initiated a thorough probe to identify the perpetrators, vowing to bring them to justice in accordance with the law, Uruzgani added.
He strongly rejected and condemned rumors suggesting involvement by members of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), emphasizing that all IEA members are committed to the general amnesty announced by the Supreme Leader and would not engage in such actions.
Uruzgani noted that graves of several senior former government officials are located in the province, but none have been harmed so far. He assured that security organs will not allow anyone to damage them.
According to available information, Sediqullah was the brother of Qari Nazar Mohammad, the former police chief of Khas Uruzgan district, and had served as his guard during the previous government.
Officials have warned that those involved will face legal consequences.
