
Renowned Indian Singer Asha Bhosle Dies at 92 in Mumbai
MUMBAI — Asha Bhosle, the iconic Indian playback singer who recorded over 11,000 songs during a career spanning more than eight decades, died at the age of 92 in Mumbai, her family confirmed.
Bhosle passed away after suffering from a chest infection, according to a report by Reuters.
Recognized by Guinness World Records for her prolific output, Bhosle received India's prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the Padma Vibhushan, and earned two Grammy nominations. She was a Bollywood legend whose voice featured in countless films, captivating generations of listeners.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute, stating: "Her extraordinary musical journey enriched India's cultural heritage and touched the hearts of millions around the world."
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and numerous other artists shared messages mourning her loss, highlighting her immense influence on Indian music.
Her funeral is scheduled for Monday in Mumbai.
