Turkish officials are investigating two school shootings that occurred in consecutive days in different provinces, the latest of which resulted in four deaths and 20 injuries.
On April 15, a teenage student in Kahramanmaras opened fire inside his school, killing three of his fellow students and a teacher. The shooter then took his own life. Twenty other people were wounded in the attack.
The governor of Kahramanmaras, Mukerrem Unluer, provided confirmation of the events. He said several of those injured in the shooting are in critical condition.
This attack came one day after a similar event in the province of Sanliurfa. On April 14, a former student at a school there wounded at least 16 individuals. That attacker also subsequently committed suicide.
Authorities are conducting thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding both shootings. Particular attention is being given to the possible motives of the attackers. This includes exploring any psychological factors that may have been involved and determining how the shooters gained access to the firearms used in the attacks.
The occurrence of these two incidents in such close succession has led to concerns about the level of safety in Turkish schools. There are calls for the adoption of stricter security protocols and other preventive measures to ensure that such events do not happen again.
Local officials have expressed their commitment to uncovering the root causes of these shootings. Support is being provided to the families of the victims as well as to the broader school communities impacted by the violence.

Reliability assessment
Single source with direct on-record attribution to named official (Governor Mukerrem Unluer), concrete checkable details (specific locations, exact dates, casualty numbers, sequence of events). Core event is corroborated via official statements and Reuters reference.
The source language mixes facts with framing or advocacy wording. Khaama Press: "particularly shocking for the public and policymakers", "raising alarm over back-to-back attacks", "heightened concerns over school safety" - these phrases introduce mild emotional framing by emphasizing public shock and alarm beyond neutral factual reporting.
