TASHKENT, Uzbekistan — A regional security body affiliated with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization warned at its latest meeting in Tashkent of significantly increased combat capabilities among terrorist groups in Afghanistan and Syria, posing a threat to the security of member states.

The 45th meeting of the Council of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) took place on Friday in Tashkent. According to Russia's TASS news agency, SCO RATS member countries expressed concern over threats from extremist and separatist groups.

The statement highlighted post-2021 developments in Taliban Afghanistan and the activities of armed groups such as ISIS branches. It emphasized the need for greater coordination, information exchange, and joint security measures to counter terrorism, extremism, and separatism.
