Pakistani officials said six police personnel were killed in an armed attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The incident occurred in Kohat district, according to the Pakistani newspaper Dawn. Unidentified armed men targeted a police vehicle transferring two accused individuals to court. Among the dead was the deputy police commander of one of the regional districts.
Security officials stated that forces have cordoned off the area and launched a large-scale operation to arrest the attackers. Pakistani government officials condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the victims' families.
Faisal Karim Kundi, governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said the security situation in the southern regions of the province has deteriorated in recent weeks.
According to statistics from the Pakistan Army Public Relations Office, more than 5,000 attacks were registered in Pakistan in 2025, resulting in over 1,200 deaths. More than 70% occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and nearly 29% in Balochistan.
Pakistani officials have previously claimed that some armed groups maintain bases across the border in Afghanistan, a claim the Taliban administration has repeatedly denied.
