Sixth Anniversary of Former TOLOnews Head Mojahid Kakar’s Passing Marked
The sixth anniversary of the passing of Mojahid Kakar, former head of TOLOnews and a prominent figure in Afghan media, was observed on the 15th of Thor. Colleagues, media executives, and former associates gathered to reflect on his contributions to journalism and his mentorship of younger reporters.
Kakar died in Germany in 1399 at the age of 51 following a prolonged illness. He began his career with the Moby Group in 1383, initially working in news translation before transitioning to broadcasting and hosting political programs. Over more than a decade, he played a central role in shaping the network’s editorial direction and expanding its news coverage.
In 1393, the Free Journalists Center of Afghanistan recognized his work with a Lifetime Achievement in Journalism award. During the anniversary commemoration, Moby Group Chief Operating Officer Mohammad Naim Sarwari highlighted Kakar’s dedication to professional standards and his influence on a new generation of Afghan journalists. Other former colleagues echoed these sentiments, noting his commitment to editorial integrity and his efforts to establish modern journalistic practices in the country.
Kakar’s career spanned a period of significant transformation in Afghanistan’s media landscape. His work in news production and program development helped establish frameworks for independent reporting that continue to be referenced by media professionals. The anniversary events focused on preserving his professional legacy and encouraging continued adherence to journalistic ethics in the field.
