The construction of a small water reservoir dam has been completed in the Akakhelo area located in Takhta Pul district of Kandahar. This dam features a capacity to hold 30,000 cubic meters of water. Funding for the project came from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock development budget, totaling 2.7 million Afghanis. The entire building process extended across two years before the dam was commissioned for use.

Local authorities highlight several key objectives for the new infrastructure. It will serve to capture and store rainwater effectively. This storage is meant to ease ongoing water shortages experienced by both farmers and herders in the vicinity. The dam should also play a role in elevating the levels of groundwater resources. Furthermore, it is positioned to mitigate the risks associated with flooding events. Strengthening of karez systems and additional water sources forms another part of the project's goals.

In a related development, rehabilitation work on a water reservoir dam situated in Miyanshin district reached completion last month.

Confirmation of these project details was provided by Mohammad Hanif Haqmal. He serves as the spokesman for the Directorate of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock in Kandahar.
