Tajikistan, CSTO Discuss Strengthening Border Security with Afghanistan
DUSHANBE, Tajikistan (Afghan Verified) -- Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon met with Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov in Dushanbe to discuss bolstering security along the country's southern border with Afghanistan.
The talks, held following recent border violence that resulted in fatalities as confirmed by Tajik authorities, focused on reinforcing Tajikistan's 1,300-kilometer border amid concerns over cross-border threats and militant activity. Both leaders stressed the vital importance of joint efforts and the implementation of a CSTO intergovernmental security program approved in November 2024.
Rahmon instructed Tajik security agencies to review and strengthen defensive measures along the Afghan border. The program includes coordination on weapons, equipment and technical support for Tajikistan's border forces.
Tasmagambetov praised Tajikistan's role in hosting joint CSTO military exercises. The discussions underscored the program's significance for Central Asia and CSTO member states.
