Taliban Arrest Head of Nangarhar Brick Kilns Union

Taliban authorities in Nangarhar have arrested Salim Ahmadzai, the head of the province's brick kilns union, for violating official price caps. The arrest took place in the Shamshpur area of Sarakhrod district following an investigation and monitoring period conducted by the Price Control and Anti-Hoarding Commission.

The Taliban media office in Nangarhar reported that Ahmadzai was detained for selling bricks at prices that exceeded the established official list. According to the commission, the official price for one thousand first-grade bricks is set at 3,300 Afghanis.

In an effort to curb the price hikes and ensure market stability, the Price Control Commission has restricted the movement of large cargo vehicles to the brick kilns. These restrictions are intended to remain in effect until the producers fully observe and adhere to the official price list.

The increase in brick prices is attributed to a surge in construction activity across the province. This rise in demand follows the recent distribution of land to thousands of families in Nangarhar townships, which has significantly increased the requirement for building materials throughout the region, leading to the current market volatility.
