Local sources report that Taliban fighters have begun collecting weapons from residents and mine workers in Abkanda village of Badakhshan province.

The fighters have gathered around 70,000 weapons so far from mine workers in the areas of Awez, Payan-e Mor, and Abkanda.

Taliban fighters have surrounded Abkanda village and plan to collect over 200,000 additional weapons from its residents.

The village has a history of opposition to the Taliban and has seen past clashes with their forces.

The Taliban governor and head of mines in Badakhshan traveled to Shahr-e Bozorg district to collect weapon permit cards.
