Taliban Foreign Minister Muttaqi Urges Diplomats to Convey Position on Afghanistan Situation
Amir Khan Muttaqi, Taliban Foreign Minister, held a virtual meeting with overseas Taliban diplomats and consuls, urging them to convey the group's position on the current situation in Afghanistan to the world.
In the meeting, Muttaqi strongly condemned recent Pakistani airstrikes on Kabul, describing them as a clear violation of humanitarian principles. The strikes occurred Monday night, when Pakistani fighter jets targeted various sections of the city, including a Taliban Ministry of Defense munitions depot in district 8 that caused prolonged fire and smoke.
Taliban officials claimed a drug addicts' treatment center was also targeted, reporting at least 400 people killed and 250 wounded, figures that have not been independently verified. Pakistan denied targeting the center, stating the strikes hit nearby ammunition depots and accusing the Taliban of setting the facility ablaze themselves, a claim the Taliban rejects.
These conflicting accounts leave questions about the precise targets and the cause of reported casualties. The incident follows 21 days of clashes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border between Pakistani forces and the Taliban, raising concerns over escalating violence and its civilian impact.
