Tehran police have taken ten people into custody on charges related to the kidnapping of Afghans. The individuals are accused of pretending to be government agents while carrying out the abductions in the Iranian capital.

The gang members reportedly brandished firearms during the kidnappings to intimidate their victims. They then contacted the families of those abducted and demanded substantial ransom amounts in exchange for their release.

All members of the group were arrested before any of the demanded ransoms could be paid. The police operation prevented the completion of the extortion attempts.

The suspects are said to have had prior involvement in criminal activities. Their methods included the use of three different vehicles to carry out their plans across the city and surrounding areas.

At least two such incidents took place in Tehran during the final months of the previous year. Further cases were also noted in the eastern region of Tehran Province.

One of the key figures in the gang was first captured in a neighboring province to Tehran. His statements during questioning allowed authorities to locate and detain the other nine individuals involved.

Two pistols and corresponding ammunition were recovered from a location associated with the group. The ten accused have been passed on to intelligence authorities to allow for additional examination of the case.

Morteza Nathari, who serves as deputy head in the department combating criminal offenses within Tehran Police, directed the efforts leading to these arrests.
