Hundreds of residents and visitors gathered in Qargha on the outskirts of Kabul for a three-day kite-flying festival organized to promote unity among young people and celebrate the arrival of spring.
The event was arranged by Khalid Lmar together with private companies. Nearly five thousand kites, along with wheels and strings, were distributed free of charge to participants.
Kite-flying is an ancient traditional Afghan game in which competitors seek to cut the strings of rival kites. Those whose lines are severed often chase the freed kites across the park as part of the competition.
In addition to the kite contests, the festival featured displays by parkour athletes, freestyle performers and skateboarders that entertained the crowds.
Teams from provinces including Maidan Wardak and Mazar-e Sharif joined Kabul residents for the occasion.
Multiple participants highlighted the gathering's positive social impact. Named attendees including Syed Mushtaq Sadat, Shahir, Samir, Ezatullah, Murad Fazli, Masoud Shirzad, Ahmad Hussain and Eimal Nabizada spoke of the event's value in fostering mutual acceptance and bringing youths together through shared cultural traditions.
