The incident occurred as the police were returning from destroying poppy cultivation in Thor village, Diamer district, according to Pajhwok Afghan News, which cited Dawn newspaper. Clashes between the attackers and police continued for several hours. One of the injured was identified as the deputy to a local officer.
Hurriyat Daily News reported that three of the wounded policemen were in critical condition. Both outlets noted the attack took place amid rising incidents targeting Pakistani security forces.
