The Kandahar Provincial Department of Information and Culture recently hosted the annual Gol-e Anar poetry gathering, a longstanding cultural event in the southern province. The gathering drew attendance from provincial officials, religious scholars, and local literary figures.

Minister of Information and Culture Sheikh Shir Ahmad Haqqani addressed the attendees, urging poets and writers to prioritize national stability and the interests of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in their work. He emphasized that literary figures should avoid ethnic and partisan divisions, instead focusing their creative efforts on defending the current Islamic system.

Kandahar Governor Mullah Shirin Akhund also spoke at the event, noting that cultural and literary activities are now being conducted in a secure and peaceful environment. He characterized the gathering as a reflection of the province’s recovery following four decades of armed conflict.

Sheikh Abdul Hadi Abulkhair, a member of the Kandahar Scholars Council, advised writers and poets to align their work with the broader goals of the Islamic system. He encouraged literary professionals to use their platforms to foster public support for the administration’s cultural and social initiatives.

The Gol-e Anar gathering has historically served as a prominent platform for Pashto and Dari poetry in Kandahar, featuring recitations from established and emerging writers. This year’s event continued that tradition, with speakers consistently framing literature as a means to reinforce social cohesion and support for the governing authorities.
