
Two children killed, five wounded in Nangarhar unexploded ordnance explosion
Taib Hammad, spokesperson for the Taliban police command in Nangarhar, said at least two children were killed and five others wounded when a war remnant bullet exploded in Batikot district. The incident occurred on Thursday, 23 Dalu, in the Spin Khwar area of Batikot district, where the children threw the unexploded ordnance into a fire while playing.
Hammad said the wounded children were taken to the central hospital in Jalalabad for treatment. He urged residents not to approach unfamiliar or suspicious objects and to report them to police.
Afghanistan is one of the world's most contaminated countries with explosives. According to UNICEF, at least 55 people die monthly from explosive incidents in the country, with 85% of victims being children. The agency stated it plans to educate 3.6 million people in Afghanistan about the dangers of explosives.
