
Unknown Gunmen Kill Several Civilians in Herat's Injil District; Karzai Condemns 'Inhumane' Attack
Unknown gunmen opened fire on civilians gathered near the Ziyarat of Sayyid Muhammad Agha in Injil district, Herat province, killing several people including women and children and wounding others. The attack occurred around 3:00 p.m. on Friday, with the gunmen arriving on motorcycles.
Casualty figures varied across reports. Taliban official Ahmadullah Mutqi said four people were killed and 15 wounded, according to Amu TV. Interior Ministry spokesperson Mufti Abdul Mateen Qani reported seven killed and 13 injured, as cited by Amu TV and Pajhwok. Khaama Press reported at least 37 civilians killed and several injured.
Security forces arrested one suspect, with investigations ongoing and others being pursued. Former President Hamid Karzai condemned the attack as "an inhumane act" and urged an end to violence against innocents.
Herat Governor Sheikh Mawlana Islam Jar visited the wounded in hospital, according to Pajhwok.
