Uzbek border forces seized 10.3 kilograms of hashish being smuggled from Afghanistan across the Amu Darya river on Wednesday during a patrol in the border area.

A 51-year-old Afghan citizen from Kunduz province was arrested while attempting to cross the border illegally using a boat, according to Uzbek media including Podrobno.uz. During inspection of the boat, officers discovered two bags containing ten compressed packages that tested as hashish, weighing 10.3 kilograms in total.

The substances were confiscated as evidence, and the Investigation Department of the State Security Service in Surkhandarya province opened a criminal case. Officials stated that investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals involved in the possible smuggling network.

The day before, Uzbek authorities thwarted another smuggling attempt involving dozens of kilograms of hashish from Afghanistan destined for Russia.
