Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said his country is actively working on the Trans-Afghan corridor project to secure direct access to southern seaports and establish transit links connecting Asia and Europe.

Mirziyoyev made the remarks at the fifth International Investment Forum in Tashkent. He noted cooperation with China and Kyrgyzstan on the initiative.

The project follows a February 2021 agreement among Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Pakistan to build a 573-kilometer railway at an estimated cost of 4.8 billion dollars. A Taliban delegation attended the forum.

Economic analysts said the corridor could increase Afghanistan's revenue, support job creation and strengthen the country's role as a bridge between Central and South Asia.
