The State Security Service of Uzbekistan has announced the seizure of nearly nine kilograms of opium in two separate operations. The drugs were smuggled from Afghanistan and the arrests were made in the provinces of Khorezm and Syrdarya.

In the first incident, which occurred in the Urganch district, a resident of the Kushkupirba district was detained. This person had been convicted in the past for drug crimes. The amount of opium found in his possession was four kilograms and four hundred seven grams.

The second operation involved stopping a Lexus vehicle at a police checkpoint in the Urganch area. A passenger in the vehicle was found to be carrying four kilograms and five hundred forty one grams of opium. This individual also had a previous record of drug convictions.

The authorities have determined that the opium was intended to be sold in the Khorezm province. Following the arrests, criminal cases have been opened and the two individuals are being interrogated.

These actions have contributed to the country's total of nearly eight hundred kilograms of narcotics seized from the start of the year to April fourteenth. The State Security Service also reported that in the past month, they have intercepted dozens of kilograms of hashish that were smuggled into the country from Afghanistan.
