Vegetable Drying Machines Distributed to Farmers in Jowzjan Province
The Jowzjan Provincial Directorate of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, in coordination with the Afghanistan Rural Reconstruction Agency, has distributed vegetable drying machines to 128 farmers across the province. The distribution marks a targeted intervention to address seasonal preservation challenges in northern agricultural zones. The initiative aims to reduce post-harvest crop losses and improve agricultural incomes in the region.
According to Zabihullah Khairandish, spokesperson for the provincial agriculture directorate, the equipment was delivered to eligible farmers in the Khanqah, Mardian, and Qarqin districts. The total value of the distributed machinery is approximately 2.5 million Afghanis, with each unit costing 19,500 Afghanis. Khairandish stated that the program targets producers who previously faced significant financial setbacks due to inadequate storage and preservation facilities.
Local farmers have welcomed the distribution, noting that the lack of proper drying and storage tools historically led to substantial crop spoilage and reduced market earnings. The newly provided machines are expected to extend the shelf life of seasonal vegetables and allow producers to sell their goods at more stable prices throughout the year.
Provincial officials indicated that this distribution is part of a broader effort to modernize agricultural infrastructure in Jowzjan. Khairandish confirmed that similar support programs will continue in the coming months, with plans to expand equipment access and technical training for farming communities across additional districts.
