Woman-Led Dairy Farm in Jawzjan Creates Job Opportunities
SHIBERGHAN, Afghanistan (Afghan Verified) -- Tamana Afshar, a woman entrepreneur in Shiberghan, Jawzjan province, launched a dairy farm four years ago with two cows and an initial investment of 500,000 afghanis.
The farm has since expanded to 15 cows and a capital of 700,000 afghanis. It now employs six women and two trained male workers, Afshar said.
The operation produces around 50 kilograms of milk daily, which is processed into fresh milk, yogurt, cream, cheese, dried curd, butter and clarified butter. These products are supplied to local markets, she added.
Afshar aims to further expand the farm to create more job opportunities for women. She called for government support to help achieve this goal.
Samiullah Hakimi, head of livestock and animal health at the provincial agriculture department, said there are 15 active livestock farms in Jawzjan province, with Afshar's being the only one managed by a woman. He added that officials plan to provide training programs for livestock farmers in the province.
